To the Groom: Get Naked

We know every man looks good in a well-tailored tux, and the flower in the groom’s lapel matches the bouquet perfectly. It is disappointing though, to see his undergarments chosen with so little thought. Men can look great and be comfortable both in, and out of, their wedding duds.

Men’s underwear design has come a long way since bulky, white cotton and generic elastic. A popular choice of modern materials is now microfiber, with Italian microfiber being of the highest quality. Microfiber hugs the body – no bunches under that tux – and is completely breathable for air circulation on the skin. Look for seamless designs with good stretch that feel like wearing nothing at all.

What to Get?

Briefs aren’t the only option in terms of style. Another popular choice is the boxer brief which is more modern than either the boxer or the brief. A boxer brief has the same waistline as a brief but with added coverage on the hip. A quality product will lay flat on the skin and not ride up. Also available are waistband-free designs for a smooth look and added comfort at the waist.

Get Naked

A long list of attributes to looks for, to be sure, but one company out of Vancouver has gotten it all right: Naked Boxer Brief Clothing. Joel Primus, a filmmaker and model, was inspired to create this new line of men’s underwear after a visit to South America.

After a year of product development, including sourcing of Italian microfiber not then seen in Canada, Naked was born. Sleek and stylish, these underwear are designed to make men feel, well, naked. The Naked brief, or boxer brief, are comfortable everyday wear, but as they come in black or white, they fit the style of a wedding tux perfectly.

Naked underwear can be found at Secret Drawers Lingerie on 5th street in downtown Courtenay. Be sure to get Naked on your wedding night.

Blushing Kaela - New Empreinte

We love fine embroidery, but sometimes beautiful stitch work can look a little bumpy under clothes. The Kaela by Empreinte manages to combine detailed design with a smooth cup.

The Kaela has soft, rounded lace; and rather than standard scrolling or flower lace, the Empreinte Kaela sports a modern wave pattern. The shade is a brown-blush with a chocolate bow at the breastbone. The wave design and lace edging follow the length of the strap.

This bra has a fresh, spring feel about it and looks great under t-shirts. In sizes 32 E through 42 F, it's perfect for the full-breasted woman.

New Felina - Emily - Add a Cup

Some women aren't entirely thrilled with their naturally-given curves, but don't want the bother of bra inserts. This is where the new Emily, by Felina, steps in. The Emily gently enhances a woman's curves without inserts or unnatural lines.

New in-store, the Felina Emily is called the Add a Cup Bra. The Emily is gently lined with a seamless pad. The bra adds extra lift, curve and cleavage to the bust. The pad is covered by a contrasting lace overlay with the feel of traditional French scroll-work.

We're carrying this bra in cups A - D and have the matching thong and pant available in sizes small through extra-large. The lace continues onto the bottoms with contrasting tone-on-tone striped panels.

And OK, we can't guarantee you'll "add a cup" to your bustline, but we do guarantee you'll look great trying.

Cruising with the Soroptimists

We would like to congratulate Dale Roberts of Courtenay BC on his win of the September cruise, sponsored by Soroptimist International Courtenay. Unfortunately, Dale didn't win through us, but through Margot Rutherford. It seems he and Dale have a pretty good streak going as Dale previously sold Margot a winning Ducky 500 ticket.

Enjoy your fun in the sun Dale. We hope you and your lucky guest will pop by before you head off and check out our loungewear, perfect for a cruise.

Crocus in the Spring - New Prima Donna

We get asked, from time to time, about lingerie in colours other than black, white or beige. While those three colours are the staple of many an underwear drawer, everyone needs something chosen for indulgence and beauty over utility.

Above is the brand new Prima Donna Deauville in this season's must-have fashion colour: crocus. Crocus particularly compliments the tanned skin of summer (although we recommend you get that tan from a bottle and not the beach).

The Prima Donna Deauville is embroidered with decorative leaves through to the scalloped edging on the cup and strap. This is one strap you don't have to worry about hiding - it's an accessory all on its own.

As usual, Prima Donna has created a design with a larger-bosom in mind. We're carrying this figure-friendly look in sizes 34 - 42, cups C - H. The briefs, with tummy-flattering panels of embroidery hugging the hips and angled down the front, are also available.

It's time. Join us in-store to see the crocus' of spring.
